The Host begins post-Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Well, kind of. Unsurprisingly, the aliens have done a much better job at being human than the humans:violence is a thing of the past, the environment is back on track,
and poverty doesn’t exist–in fact, money doesn’t exist. Earth is a spotless suburban heaven populated by very polite non-people. The only hitch is the dwindling human insurgency, which objects to being mindless hosts for the parasitic aliens.

2010. 105 min. Unrated.

Elvis and Madona is the glossiest of modern queer cinema: the tale of a very odd but lovable couple from Brazilian director Marcelo Lafitte. Elvis (Simone Spoladore) is a butch lesbian woman with a motorcycle. Madona (Igor Cotrim) is a femme gay man who wears dresses and makeup. After a series of unhappy relationships, they find one another and, against all odds, fall deeply in love. But problems complicate their relationship, including Madona’s abusive ex-boyfriend and history in gay porn. When Elvis becomes pregnant with Madona’s child, their lives merge with dramatic consequences.

Bernie

2011. 104 minutes. Rated PG-13.

“There are people in town, honey, that woulda shot her for five dollars”.

Jack Black as Bernie

In 1996, a well-liked undertaker named Bernie Tiede shot his wealthy 81-year old companion, Marjorie Nugent, to death with a rifle. After hiding her body in a freezer, he proceeded to convince the residents of their home town of Carthage, Texas that Marjorie was alive and well in seclusion. Her reputation was so bad and Bernie was so popular that nobody questioned her absence for nine months.

Fifteen years later, they made a movie about it.
